Life In Colour is a space for men-of-colour to come together in a respectful, safer, and non-judgmental environment. This space is created by men-of-colour for men-of-colour to connect and share common struggles, interests, desires and to support each other and grow together. Topics will range from Sexuality, Culture, Family, Racial judgement and other issues that Men-of-colour may face in the Queer community or in general.
This exclusive (POC only) space will be a mix of sharing past experiences as well as exploring and expanding on how our identities relate to “queer men’s health”.
Jas is the Outreach Coordinator at Health Initiative for Men (HIM) along with being first generation mixed Indian-Canadian. Growing up in an Eastern cultural background, Jas struggled with finding who he was with his identity, sexuality and cultural beliefs. Like many men-of-colour, it's difficult to see representation of POC's in the queer community. Noticing this and wishing to make some change, Jas aims to provide safer space, openness and peer-lead talks to encourage those who don't see themselves in the community feel welcomed. Working with HIM has helped Jas find ways to connect with international students, other gay men-of-colour and wishes to continue the work and show the queer community is diverse.
