Everything you need to know:

The festival looks great! Can I help somehow?

Yes! There are a few ways to help us:

  1. Spread the word to spread the love - we want to reach people everywhere, especially in the Global South. You could write your friends and lovers a personal invitation or post about Queer Heart it in your social media (we have Instagram and Facebook: @queerheartfestival). Help us spread the word, the sooner the better.

  2. We are looking for volunteers to assist during workshops. Please get in touch with us as soon as you can, by email info@queerheartfestival.org.

  3. Donate generously - the festival has no registration fees so people can join us regardless of their financial abilities. Your donation will help us pay the people who have put time, effort and love into creating this space.

Thank you and be blessed! <3

What should I prepare?

For an online Zoom session:

  • most phones and laptops have adequate built-in speakers/microphones, but you can use a headset for more privacy
  • go to the washroom before a session starts
  • have a drink or snack nearby if you know you'll like that
  • enter the meeting about 5-10 minutes early to guarantee your spot and to work through any technical glitches you might encounter

What security precautions are being taken?

In order to participate, each person needs to register for the festival, and then register for each individual workshop they wish to attend. There is unfortunately no foolproof way to stop homophobes from attending.

However, anyone who causes a disturbance during a meeting will immediately be removed from the workshop, and their registration will be removed from the festival.

What if I’m in a workshop and asked to do something I don’t want to do?

We create a set of 5 community guidelines at our opening ritual. One of the guidelines is around self-care. This means that you are never required to do anything that doesn’t work for your body, heart or mind. All of the facilitation is a suggestion: only you know what is appropriate for you in that moment. This means that at any point during a workshop, you can change the instructions in a way that honours your needs, choose to simply observe, or leave altogether.

What forms of donations do you accept?

We are accepting PayPal payments. To do so, please go here: donate button on the donate page is perfect too! Donations fuel this festival and cannot be refunded. Thank you in advance for your support!

How will it work online?

This is an experiment! We're going to try our hardest to create a temporary community where we can connect in meaningful ways. You will receive a link through which you can join the Zoom call. Some sessions will have a cap on the number of attendees. For some sessions, the door will be locked after starting and latecomers will be turned away.

We will not be accepting dial-in audio-only participants at this festival.

You invite and welcoming self-identified men* to participate in the festival. What do you mean by that?

Masculinity and femininity are energies in the universe that some people choose to identify with. Even those who identify as “man” or “woman” are a complex interweaving of both of these energies. This weekend is both for people who identify as “men”, and others who are exploring their “masculinity”. As such, cis and trans men are both welcome to participate in the festival, as well as folks who identify as non-binary or gender fluid. The beauty of our time together is being in a “masculine” container (and we each get to define what masculine means to us) and learning to relate through that lens. There will be no policing to make sure you are “man” enough.

Is this event just for gay men*?

Men* of all sexualities are welcome at this event. While some of the workshops involve sexual energy, many do not. Consider this event a way to learn to relate to men* in several different ways: physically, verbally, emotionally, psychologically, sensually, and perhaps sexually.

What happens at Queer Heart?

We are creating an online container for men* to explore connection, deep sharing, and authentic vulnerability. We bring skilled facilitators from all over the world to guide us on unique journeys through body, heart, mind and spirit.

The atmosphere is dynamic and full of possibility. This is a great chance to meet like-minded men of all ages, races, backgrounds and body types. This is a golden opportunity to learn about yourself and how to connect with others in a sober container.

What language will workshops be in?

All workshops will be in English unless otherwise stated. Two workshops will be held in Mandarin.

Do I need to be there the whole time?

No, but we do ask people who register for this online event to commit to being present for at least three workshops. Why three? The intent is to create a sense of coherence among participants. One of our five principles is Community. Let's experiment with how we might create Community in a global, online, multi-timezone festival and the possibilities this provides."

Can I join calls if I am deaf or hard-of-hearing?

Yes! We are using the Rev software to provide closed captioning during all our Zoom meetings. It works with about 80% accuracy.
